Manila, Philippines — May 18, 2026. BusinessWorld hosted the Economic Forum 2026 at the Grand Hyatt Manila, convening leaders from government, business, and academia under the theme “Advancing the ASEAN Agenda: Turning Regional Vision to Corporate Action.”

The forum highlighted the Philippines’ ASEAN chairmanship in 2026 and its opportunity to position itself as a regional economic engine amid global uncertainties and integration challenges.

Forum Highlights

The Opening Keynote was given by World Bank East Asia & Pacific Director Zafer Mustafaoğlu, who emphasized the Philippines’ potential to drive ASEAN growth through competitiveness, digital transformation, and sustainability.

A panel of “Competitiveness” experts from the Philippine Competition Commission, Boston Consulting Group, Asian Institute of Management, and Grab Philippines discussed innovation and regulatory frameworks. On the Technology & AI session, ICT Secretary Henry Rhoel R. Aguda and leaders from Globe Business, Bain & Company, Deloitte Philippines, and UNDP Philippines addressed responsible AI adoption and digital inclusion.

The Agriculture Fireside Chat: SEARCA Director Mercedita A. Sombilla shared strategies for enhancing agricultural competitiveness within ASEAN. While on the Energy Panel: ERC’s Sharon Montañer, ACEN CFO Jonathan Paul Back, and climate experts explored pathways to sustainable energy integration. Under the Geopolitical Risks session, Analyst Don McLain Gill provided insights on regional tensions and their impact on trade and investment. Concluding the forum, the Closing Keynote was given by Go Negosyo founder Jose Ma. “Joey” Concepcion III, who urged businesses to embrace ASEAN cooperation for inclusive prosperity.
